MICHIGAN MOBILITY INSTITUTE SELECTED BY REGION’S EMPLOYERS TO CONVENE GROUP’S WORK Download
DETROIT, MI, October 23, 2019
The Michigan Mobility Institute has been selected by the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic-Opportunity Workforce Development to receive grant funding through the Michigan Industry Cluster Approach 2.0 program. This award provides funding for the Michigan Mobility Institute to lead activities on behalf of the Mobility On-Ramp Collaborative — an effort by three of Michigan’s most recognized mobility companies to address regional talent needs. Together, Bosch USA, Ford Motor Company, and May Mobility will create talent pipeline strategies to boost readiness for high-demand, high wage workforce positions in software development and data sciences.
Over the next two years, the Mobility On-Ramp Collaborative will create a new mobility credential for working professionals, strengthen career pathways by connecting efforts to existing youth STEM initiatives and post-secondary programs, and promote next-generation mobility careers. It is one of only seven new collaboratives to receive funding from the State of Michigan in this program.
“Bringing together this forward-thinking group of employers is a step toward continuing to invest in the people of our state who will power the future of the mobility industry,” said Michigan Mobility Institute Executive Director Jessica Robinson. “Talent is a central need that every employer we’ve talked to shares. It only makes sense to tackle the challenge jointly.”
Joining the employers as community partners are Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan, Center for Automotive Diversity, Inclusion and Advancement, PlanetM, SMASH, and Wayne State University. These partners were sought out for their existing expertise as stakeholders in the community to address the workforce challenges facing the industry.
In a press release earlier this week announcing the grant award, Workforce Development Director Stephanie Beckhorn said, “Bringing together employers, education, training institutions and workforce development organizations will help Michigan get focused on creating innovative solutions to our talent needs. These partnerships are focused on demand-driven initiatives where there are opportunities to address talent shortages in high-demand industries…”
